FAQ: This Blighted Isle: Darkened Hill & Dale

What will the printed booklets be like?

The page count is going to depend on stretch goals and amendments based on playtesting, but I’m expecting it to be in the region of 40 A5 pages as things stand. I’m hoping to use recycled paper and soft-touch lamination on the cover for both softcover and hardcover.

What will the art style be like?

The layout is currently light on art, with a focus on written content; required illustrations and maps are simple in style. If we smash the stretch goals then I’ll be commissioning a variety of art in a style that suits the scenarios. The cover artwork is currently a charming old painting of the British countryside that conceals the horrors within.

Are the scenarios already written?

The scenarios exist as advanced drafts. If this Kickstarter goes well I may expand them a little to include more supporting ephemera and notes for potential campaign angles. They’ll then undergo some more playtesting before they’re ‘finished’ and sent out to backers because I don’t want to send you anything half-baked!

Why aren’t you using print-on-demand for this project?

I looked into it but didn’t like the admin side of things and it seemed to come out more expensive for backers! That aside, I’d really like to make sure the physical copies are nice quality for folks.

How are physical copies shipping?

As the physical copies will be quite slim, I anticipate them being posted in card-backed envelopes. At the time of writing, my intention is to handle shipping myself (with the aid of some potentially glamorous assistants) and utilise Royal Mail. Within the UK, I intend to send items First Class. For international backers, I intend to ship items as International Standard, which should reach Europe in 3–5 working days and everywhere else globally in 6-7 working days. Neither of these options are tracked. Shipping has been calculated to be roughly at-cost for backers.

Will I have to pay customs charges if ordering from outside of the UK?

Your country may well have additional customs fees. I’m not able to predict or collect these, so please check your local regulations for that information. Shipped items will be listed on customs forms at the value of the item(s), not the total amount you pledged, so any customs fees will be based on that amount. I’ll do my best to keep customs fees down for you when shipping.

Current Estimated Shipping Date: December 2024

Hello friends, I've been posting monthly project updates over on Kickstarter but I've just realised that these don't automatically get forwarded on to those of you who've pre-ordered through BackerKit. Sorry about that! You can find more information over in the linked Kickstarter update but, in case you missed it, I wanted to let you know that Darkened Hill & Dale is currently set to ship in mid-late December. Thank you all for your patience! I'll share future updates here when they're published too. — Sarah

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
